INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The increase in international trade due to globalisation has made domestic and international businesses more aware of the need to secure the distinct characteristics of their products, services and technology transfers.

In light of that, the law in this area has also developed rapidly in Turkey. The latter is being particularly true of information technology and telecommunications and this is eminent by the numerous conventions to which Turkey is a party or a signatory to its amended Codes.  Businessmen have become fully conscious that they are able to protect their interests through intellectual property rights.

A trademark and patent attorney works on intellectual property issues including litigation. The Office registers foreign trademarks in Turkey and performs the registration of Turkish trademarks in other jurisdictions whilst reviewing and drafting contracts regarding intellectual industrial matters. The areas of work we deal in this context include:

  • Trademarks and Design Rights,
  • Patents,
  • Copyrights,
  • Passing off and misuse of trade secrets,
  • Advice concerning the intellectual property aspects of mergers, acquisitions and buyouts,
  • Search, registration and transfer of title of trademarks at an international level,
  • Negotiation and drafting of licensing agreements.
